Sasquatch 2014 Line-up 2x!

Sasquatch has released its line-up for BOTH of its 2014 festival weekends. Yes, that is correct, they split the festival into 2 weekends this year.

Weekend #1 :  Memorial Day Weekend,  May 23rd - 25th
Weekend #2 :  Fourth of July Weekend,   July 4th -6th

Clearer and MUCH larger versions of the Posters are below.

The split has apparently pissed off everyone under the sun. Everyone has been complaining about the potential of diluting a great weekend into 2 mediocre (and 1 day shorter) weekends, and charging just as much (if not more). Yes they are a bunch of money-grubbin whores. And yes they are riding-out a cash cow.  But everyone still gets an awesome a festival weekend (or 2, if you so choose). Also it will likely be less crowded, since the festival has been getting very overcrowded recently. And lets face it, 4 days was a bit too much anyway: physically, mentally, emotionally, & spiritually. [you can almost hear my age here. but its true. 3 days is long enough for a music festival.]

Personally, I hated the split because it made buying pre-sale tickets a major gamble. The only good option was to buy BOTH, with the hopes of selling off 1 weekend's tickets if need be. I opted for buying none, not knowing what the future would hold, and knowing what my wallet currently holds (moths).

My picks

Weekend 1
Returning good bands : Outkast
Mid-listers I would love to see: First Aid Kit, Tune-Yards, Panda Bear, Washed Out,
Bottom-listers: La Luz, Radiation City, The Lonely Forest,

Weekend 2
Returning good bands : Neutral Milk, Soundgarden
Mid-listers I would love to see: Broken Bells, Tegan and Sara, Local Natives, La Roux, Deltron 3030, Foxygen, Mac Demarco,
Bottom-listers: Chad Vangaalen, Kithkin

Anyway here are the line-ups. Both weekends are pretty solid. I think I'm leaning towards July though....? I'm looking forward to the HEAT!

Warning: the line-up posters are HUGE!!!

I would love to mix 'n match the line-ups into one really great festival, but oh well. I guarantee a great weekend no matter which weekend you choose.

Coachella 2014 Lineup Announced

Well... They've done it again. Coachella has another stellar line-up. Incredible Headliners, a very solid lineup of mid-listers, and good low-listers, featuring many recent chart-toppers, international superstars, and buzz-worthy bands of late.

Some major Lineup highlights:

The reunion of Outkast! I mean, come on! That's gonna be cooler than a polar bear's toenails. Ohh hail....

A live performance by The Knife; a band known for being recluses and how rarely they do a live show, (especially in this country). A rare and wild treat I guarantee!

The indie legends Neutral Milk Hotel, who have only recently returned to the stage to fulfill the dreams that indie fans thought would never come true. I still don't believe I'll ever have a chance to see them.

Arcade Fire. Besides being a fantastic band, with a fantastic discography, they have a history of making their Coachella appearances epic. At their 2011 show, they dropped 2,000 balloons with synchronized LED lights. Here is a video. Here is how it was done.  More Videos.  So I would not miss this show.

Empire Of The Sun has been putting on exceptionally visually-rewarding shows on their recent tours. A friend of a friend took these amazing photos at their show at the 9:30 Club in D.C in September 2013. From the little bit I could see at Sasquatch 2013, I would recommend catching this novelty set, as it should be awesome.

I'd be willing to bet Muse puts on a damn good show.

Some other highlights of bands I would love to see:  Broken Bells, Sleigh Bells, Washed Out, The Head And The Heart, Foxygen, Disclosure, Lana Del Rey, Surfer Blood, CHVRCHES.

AND MANY MORE!!!!! (after I do a bunch of festival research)

So who wants to go???  You have 1 day to decide!!!!!

If it is even possible to get tickets, you should snatch them up, because they go very very fast.

Last year Weekend 1 sold out in 20 minutes! Weekend 2 followed within 24 hours.

Weekend 1 is April 11th - 12th, 2014
Weekend 2 is April 18th - 20th, 2014

Coachella 2013 Lineup

Looks like a throwback to about 5 years ago, but that is fine with me, because I really haven't moved on from that point.   plus some other good recent bands that I would like to see. Headliners are a little weak, but still good. The fucking Postal Service !!!! (hell yeah).   I want to go.

How Festival line-ups are made

I found this on Reddit, and thought it was funny enough to pass along. It is pretty much spot on.

You have to look no further than this very page to see that this must be the algorithm that festivals use to fill choose their line-ups.

Pitchfork serves up initial 2012 Festival Lineup

Calling all no-coast-ers!

The initial Pitchfork Music Festival line-up has been announced. It is currently pretty crappy (IMO), but if past years are any indication, it will probably be a great lineup of the current indie bands, and it will be a bargain. 30+ additional bands have yet to be announced, so you can expect the line-up to get significantly better. It will sell out...fast.

I have always wanted to go to the Pitchfork Music Festival, and see Chicago while I’m at it. But not this year.

When: July 13-15th 2012
Where: Chicago's Union Park
Tickets on Sale:  Friday, March 9th    12 pm (Central Time)   at the Pitchfork Music Festival website

Ticket Cost:
Individual Day:  $45
3-Day Passes:   $110

The line-up as of now:

Vampire Weekend, Feist, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Hot Chip,
AraabMUZIK, A$AP Rocky, the Field, Liturgy, Kendrick Lamar,
Grimes, Cloud Nothings, Tim Hecker, and Willis Earl Beal

Bonnaroo 2012 Lineup Released

The 2012 Bonnaroo Festival Lineup has been released. There are some pretty good gets as far as headliners: Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phish, and The Beach Boys

Probably the biggest names for headliners of any festival lineup I have seen for this years festival lineup announcement season.

Radiohead at Bonnaroo is probably really awesome. I missed Radiohead's Bonnaroo debut several years ago (2006), of which Thome Yorke said it was his "favorite show for ever and ever and ever."  !!!!!!!!!!!!  That is quite a statement, although he is not the only musician to say that Bonnaroo is their favorite venue.

As far as The Beach Boys, it is the full original members[who are currently living]. In other words this is different from past tours where it was just a few "Beach Boys" with a backing band. However, I'm sure it will just end up being a depressing rendition of all of their hits. I would probably still check it out.

Phish is a big get from the jam scene and will please the Bonnaroo festival-goers reminiscent of Bonnaroo days past, when it was almost exclusively a Jam festival.

And who doesn't like the Red Hot Chili Peppers? So I would say it is not a bad set of headliners

And continuing down the list there is a good collection of mid-level bands and lower-level bands. Pretty typical good lineup for Bonnaroo. Worth the ticket cost. Worth the driving??...is another thing altogether. Get 'em while they are cheaper, because it will probably sell out, and the price will only go UP!

The full lineup (as of now):
Bolded bands are the one I would initially have on my list (of course that will evolve).

Update (2-7-12) - New Additions: Santigold, Of Monsters & Men, Graffiti6, Anthony Jeselnik

The Sasquatch Lineup has just been released.

The festival will be held on Friday, May 25th to Monday, May 28th.
Tickets [4-day passes + camping] on-sale: Saturday, February 11th at 10am

Price: approx $315 for 4-day passes. (YIKES!!!!)

The line-up isn’t amazing or terrible, just kind of ehh.  There is a lot of initial negativity pouring out from festival-goers, probably because they are depressed that Coachella is sold out without them. I’m somewhat in that boat.

Being previously on the East coast I have not paid too much attention to the lineup as I knew it was out of reach, but looking back at past line-ups, this year does seem to be missing the big guns. Had this been my festival stomping grounds, and my yearly escape-from-reality destination, this lineup probably would have been depressing.

For me it will be a whole new festival to experience, so I guess I’m not as let-down as others who have been going for years. It is still a music festival, with quite a few bands I could fill up a 4 day weekend with.  I haven’t made up my mind about going yet, but initial feelings point to no, based on the price versus lineup factor. Update: I am now pretty sure I am going, I am now going! So if you are in the PNW and are going, let me know! What changed my mind you ask? Well I don't know who I was kidding, thinking that I just sit home while a festival is going on this close by! And some good friends are going (which makes it all the more exciting) and ....who can turn down a festival?

The Artists. Bold are the ones I am currently interested in seeing. I have to do a bit or research to add to my ‘to see’ list. If you have any recommendations on who to see please feel free to give them!

Jack White, Beck, Bon Iver, Pretty Lights, Tenacious D, The Shins, Beirut, Girl Talk, The Roots, The Head & The Heart, Portlandia, Feist, Silversun Pickups, Metric, Explosions In The Sky, The Joy Formidable, Mogwai, Nero (DJ), M. Coachella Line-up Released!

UPDATE: Coachella is now SOLD OUT! Tickets went on sale on Friday Jan 13th, 2012, and ALL tiers for BOTH WEEKENDS were sold out in a matter of hours!   Friday the 13th...an unlucky day, indeed.

Coachella! Well.... its awesome....as usual...... who wants to go!?

This year, there are actually 2 different weekends of the SAME festival! Coachella will “attempt to produce two identical festival weekends. That means same lineup, same art, different people."

April 13-15     or    April 20-22  in  Indio, California

Roo Bound

It looks like this year Bonnaroo has decided to release artists attending the show in an asinine way. They have been announcing the lineup ALL DAY LONG, by releasing one name at a time, via their MySpace page. A quite interesting and very original approach, but also VERY FRUSTRATING!

I will give them props for turning, what is usually a fleeting, overwhelming scaning-over of the much-anticipated line-up poster, into a daylong event. But on the flip side, they are causing record anxieties to the ravenous, die-hard fans who have been anticipating this release (yes, double entendre intended) for months.

Bonnaroo has been at the top of Google Trends all morning, meaning it has been the top Google search. Tickets are on sale as the lineup is (starting to be) released as of 12 noon.

Initial Pitchfork Media Festival Lineup

Pitchfork Media Festival
Pitchfork Media Festival has released it's initial lineup. Not a bad little list, and if past years are any indication, the final list will be any scenester's wet dream.

Those attending (thus far) include: Modest Mouse, LCD Soundsystem, St. Vincent, Pavement, Here We Go Magic, and Sleigh Bells. The Fest is held July 16 -18th in Chicago. The very reasonably priced, $90 ticket, will get you in for all three days, and is guaranteed to be best Festival bargain you will find. Tickets are on sale, but won't be, for long...

Coachella vs. Bonnaroo

Coachella Line-up
The 2010 Coachella line-up was recently released, causing quite a bit of excitement to many a festival-goer, as its line-up surpasses many of the fantasy line-ups that surface across the web about this time of year.

Bonnaroo has announced that its line-up will finally be released to the salivating masses on February 9th. Let's hope Bonnaroo can live up to Coachella's BIG NAME headliners, and its encyclopedia of indie bands which is exhausting just to read. But the 'Roo is gonna have to bring in the big guns, or else I am purchasing a ticket for California, and Craigslisting a ticket to Tennessee...
